Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay Sands debuts newly designed rooms - Sydney Morning Herald

It's no idle boast when Marina Bay Sands claims that since opening in Singapore in 2010 with its bold twin towers topped with the cruise-ship-like form of Sands SkyPark it has transformed not just the country's skyline, but also Singapore's tourism landscape.

Marina Bay Sands is a destination within a destination with its luxury shopping mall, world-class dining, including restaurants by Australian-Japanese celebrity chef Tetsuya, and entertainment offerings including the fabulous ArtScience Museum.

Now, the iconic property is in the midst of renovation of its hotel spaces and has just debuted about 850 newly designed rooms - almost two thirds of its lodgings.

The next phase of renovation will focus on the higher end suites, increasing from 137 to 422 – to cater to what Marina Bay Sands execs see as a rising demand for luxury travel.

For now, guests can experience fresh rooms designed with inspiration from Singapore's multicultural life.

With a taupe-based colour palette across luxury fabrics and finishings, the design has flourishes such as bedroom headboards mimicking the Chinese screens of Peranakan shophouses and floors covered with Axminster wool carpet, featuring a motif similar to textiles found along Arab Street.

A new addition to rooms is the Armoire, a minibar decorated in gold chinoiserie pattern on shiny black lacquer, and holding specialty teas, coffee, fine wines and snacks. It's accompanied by a cocktail trolley stocked with liquor, mixers and garnishes so guests can create their own drinks.

Marina Bay Sands is also undergoing a digital transformation, and guests are now able to use their mobile devices to check-in and complete verification so that on arrival at the hotel, they can activate digital keys for room and lift access.

Rooms now include smart amenities such as wireless phone charging pods, bedside lighting and curtain control panels, and motion-activated occupancy sensors that automatically respond to guests' comings and goings.
