Has everyday existence become a bit predictable, somewhat humdrum? Well then, your perfect holiday this year might just be in one of Ireland's splendid hotels, really getting away from it all, and remembering who you really are and what you enjoy. Having time to laugh, tell jokes, look around at a different world to the one you inhabit every day. See new places, try wonderful food, discover new interests. There is nothing like getting away from the everyday familiar to see life in a new light. My First Thriller: David Baldacci ‹ CrimeReads - CrimeReads

Image
The cliché rings true. David Baldacci was an overnight success.  It just took him 15 years to get there. His first novel, Absolute Power , took three years to write, two weeks to find an agent and two days to sell. But it was what Baldacci did in the run-up to his instant fame and fortune, which made the difference.  The New York Times bestselling author first wrote short stories, failed at writing screenplays and then thought he was through as a writer before he had ever tried writing a novel. Baldacci always had a fascination with storytelling. "I loved mysteries," he says. He always wanted to tell so many stories, and never really stopped talking, so his exasperated mother, Joyce, gave him a notebook when he was young and told him to write them all down. He did. Then he started to act them out, as if he were performing a play or making a movie. "I would choreograph the events with my friends. I liked to use my imagination."...

The 866-key hotel at 356 West 58th Street has been closed since the onset of the pandemic, but its new owner has big plans for the 385,000-square-foot property, according to the Commercial Observer, securing a $207 million loan from Parkview Financial and Montgomery Street Partners for its purchase and redevelopment. While the 24-story building will no longer be a hotel, it will be a 438-unit residential development with office and commercial space. Image
David Arditi with YotelPad (Yotel) Aria Development Group completed YotelPad Miami, the first new flexible, short-term rental-friendly condo and hotel project in downtown Miami. Aria, led by principal David Arditi, partnered with the Kuwaiti firm AQARAT to develop the 31-story building at 227 Northeast Second Street. The project has been in the works since at least 2014, and its latest version was expected to be completed in 2020. Arditi said construction was delayed by the pandemic and the logistical challenges that came with it. "A lot of life happened in the last several years," he said, pointing more recently to challenges with getting materials. The pandemic hit a year or so into construction, which began in 2019, Arditi added. The project's 231 condos are sold out, and sales of 131 units have been recorded so far for nearly $45 million. Closings began in March and are expected to be completed in mid-June 231-condo building, Arditi said. Prices started at...

Flick Fact: A motel room rate here? Back in 1948? - The Pantagraph

Image
Question: Motel rooms in the Twin Cities these days are reasonable, but used to be better. For example, if visiting here 75 years ago, what was the common rate to have a hotel room for a night in Bloomington-Normal? Answer: From a 1948 edition of Duncan Hines' "Lodging for the Night," a book that listed room rates around the United States, one room, with a bath, at the Illinois Hotel (today's Illinois House) in downtown Bloomington was $3.50 a night. Didn't need a bath? Only $2.75 a night then. 26 Bloomington-Normal restaurants from years past Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips ...
