PORTSMOUTH — A development team has received final approval to renovate and redevelop the Wren's Nest Village Inn site on Lafayette Road with 75 market-rate apartments. The first building at the site — which is located at 3548 Lafayette Road — was built in the 1930s, according to Erik Saari of Altus Engineering Inc. He represented developers of the project at a recent city Planning Board meeting. The site is now made up of what Saari described as "a very eclectic mix of motel units." "There are your standard motel efficiency units, there are a number of standalone cottages, there are a few suites scattered throughout all the buildings," he told the board. 50 townhouses: Portsmouth development aims to meet demand for housing The largest existing building, which was built in 1999, houses an indoor pool, which Saari said will be lost during the redevelopment. "What we're proposing to do is to take down a few of the sm...

Hotel real estate investors are moving ahead with plans to buy and develop properties as they anticipate more people travelling for leisure and for business. With severe cases of COVID-19 on the decline, governments are removing travel restrictions and helping the hospitality sector recover from its biggest business decline in decades, if not ever. Toward the end of the pandemic, there was a surge in investor interest to buy hotels in B.C., many in the Thompson-Okanagan. Colliers International data show 39 B.C. hotel real estate transactions valued at more than $1 million in 2021. That is the highest number of those deals in at least a decade. Some owners wanted to exit the sector because it was in such a deep downturn, while other investors could see foresee a sector rebound, according to Russell Beaudry, senior director for hotels a...

Two Four Seasons Hotels Team Up To Create The Ultimate Route 66 Road Trip - TravelAwaits

Image
U.S. Highway 66 — usually referred to simply as Route 66 — is one of, if not the , most iconic U.S. highways. Stretching from Chicago all the way to California, Route 66 was also called the "Main Street of America" because it wound through small towns and was lined by restaurants, motels, gas stations, and tourist attractions in those towns. Then again, during the Great Depression, farm families who had been displaced from the Dust Bowl made their way west to California. In search of a better life, they followed what John Steinbeck called "The Mother Road" in his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Grapes of Wrath . Route 66 was decommissioned as an official U.S. Highway in 1985 and was replaced by the Interstate system.  However, "federal and state agencies, private organizations, and numerous members of the public realized that remnants of the road were quickly disappearing, and that the remaining significant structures, features, and artifact...

"So to be able to kind of take our minds off of volleyball and get some good team bonding as we enter the second half of the season was really fun. It was awesome for us." Against the Tigers, Ball State looked in the groove, with Cruz saying everyone was on the same page. "Man, [we're] riding high right now," Cruz said.
