Antlers' Review | - Santa Fe Reporter

Image
Excuse me, but when did Antlers from producer Guillermo Del Toro and Hostiles director Scott Cooper come out, even?! Suddenly it was there on the HBO Max app's new releases row like it was nothing, but I don't remember it coming to theaters. And I would have known, too, because Cooper's horror flick based on a short story by writer Nick Antosca stars Kerri Russell (from the phenomenal show The Americans ) and Breaking Bad alum Jesse Plemons (who just got an Oscar nom for Power of the Dog , btw). I've been looking forward to it for a long time in that I enjoy mediocre horror sometimes, no joke, but now that I've seen Antlers ? Meh. It's fine. A little less than fine, honestly—more problematic than fine, really, and the type of horror movie that would have been a lot more popular in the early aughts. In Antlers , we join 12-year-old Lucas (Jeremy T. Thomas), a super-weird super-weirdo living in rural Oregon whose teacher (Russell) notices he does scary illustrati...

Woman who helped man flee also charged in teen’s murder - The Gazette

Tyliyah L. Whitis CEDAR RAPIDS — A Davenport woman is charged with providing transportation for the 19-year-old accused in the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old girl in Cedar Rapids last July. The mother of a friend of Marshawn Rome Jackson, the Cedar Rapids man charged in the shooting death of the Peoria teen, is charged with helping her son and Jackson flee the city. Stacey Lynn Shanahan, 41, of Davenport, drove her son, whose name has been redacted, and Jackson from Cedar Rapids to the Relax Inn motel at 6310 N. Brady St. in Davenport last July, according to a criminal complaint. Advertisment Shanahan was charged Feb. 1, after a warrant was issued in January, for being an accessory after the fact and obstruction of prosecution, both aggravated misdemeanors. If convicted, she faces up to four years in prison. Jackson, charged last week with first-degree murder, intimidation with a dang...

Amangani, and the enduring mystique of the American West in pristine Jackson Hole - 7x7

Image
Did you know there's a Jackson Hole, China? It's true! In fact, the resort town, which was completed in 2009 and takes heavy inspiration from the kitschiest of western Americana, sits not too far from where the skiing events are taking place right now in the 2022 Winter Olympics, in the mountains north of Beijing. Not quite a replica, you could think of the Chinese vacation home development—complete with antler chandeliers, wagon wheels, and even its own Teton Village with its own Cowboy Bar—as a tribute (built in the name of profit) to the outsize space the Wild West holds in the global imagination. It does loom large. In Jackson Hole, Wyoming in early December, I had the distinct feeling of having been there before. I had—this was my third visit. I have seen the mighty spray of Old Faithful at Yellowstone National Park in summer and have hiked among the golden aspens of Teton National Park and hooked cutthroat trout on the twisting Snake River beneath soaring bald eagles i...

Audemars Piguet and Whitepod Hotel Teamed up to Create a Luxury Suite 'Pod' in the Swiss Alps - Hospitality Net

Image
Given Audemars Piguet's fastidious eye for design, it's likely to create a very impressive hotel suite. So concluded Whitepod, an idyllic eco-resort in the Swiss Alps, which recently enlisted the Swiss watchmaker to help develop a new nature-focused oasis for its guests. Established in 2004, Whitepod is comprised of 18 private pods that are perched on the Dents-du-Midi mountain range, at an altitude of nearly 4,600 feet. The resort, which is at the intersection of luxury and sustainability, was inspired to incorporate the creative prowess and meticulous craftsmanship that fellow Swiss brand AP has exemplified since 1875 into its new Timeless Suite. Of course, the watch brand is no stranger to the hospitality biz. It opened its own 50-room Swiss inn called Hôtel des Horlogers in 2005; it was razed in 2018 to make space for a new 75,350-square-foot hotel that will be designed by noted architect Bjarke Ingels (it's slated to reopen in 2022). To make things interesting, A...

Incidents at Reynoldsburg Days Inn do not appear to violate deal with city - The Columbus Dispatch

Image
Scott Gerfen  |  ThisWeek USA TODAY NETWORK A Reynoldsburg motel that was closed by court order in September 2021 has reopened after meeting several restrictions included in a negotiated agreement with the city. However, on the same day City Attorney Chris Shook and the motel's attorneys appeared before Franklin County Municipal Court Judge Stephanie Mingo for a status update, police investigated a fatal drug overdose and Truro Township firefighters responded to a fire in one of the rooms at the Days Inn, 2100 Brice Road. While the Feb. 24 incidents do not appear to violate the negotiated agreement, Shook said, "We are not seeing these problems at other motels in the city." "It tells me that there's no way to run a motel in that corridor and not have problems," he said. "Economically, (the area) obviously is in worse shape than it was 20-30 years ago. Columbus motels there have similar problems, and they're...

Image
Las Vegas is well known for its hotels, entertainment and of course it's casinos, with the location becoming more popular to feature in films. Over the years, there's been a number of different films that feature the famous Las Vegas location. Whether it be the hotels, Grand Canyon or incredible casinos, they've proven to be a popular location when it comes to films. A huge chunk of Las Vegas films will incorporate some sort of gambling, to give the audience a real Vegas feel. Typically it will be within American action and drama films, using the stereotype of hardcore gamblers in Vegas. Not all action films involving shootings and money laundering need to happen with Vegas though. With the UK being a country that has some of the oldest gambling culture, finding high-street bookies or a UK bet exchange is straightforward due to the fact that they're in abundance. This is portrayed through plenty of mainstream films & TV shows, l...
